Here a rnedering of the rock ogre in a few poses. To the right is a much reduced  texture. The origianl was 1024x1024, reduced to 512x512 fir teh game. This one is only 256x256.

Ogre in the making

When I design a character I spend some time thinking how to map it. How will it move, will the texture stretch too much? Should I use planer mapping, or cylindrical? Here you see some of the prep work that goes into a creature.


I usually use a render of the creature in wire frame as a guide, once i have the beginnings of that roughed in I use UNWrap in MAX and jump back and forth between my art program (usually Painter, sometimes Photoshop) and MAX.
